Dramatic lighting captures Asian glamour at Royal Palm Residences’ 50 sqm. model unit

Dramatic lighting captures Asian glamour at Royal Palm Residences’ 50 sqm. model unit

The first Thai-inspired development from DMCI Homes is now generating excitement in the market with such idyllic attributes that infuse tropical resort living with urban conveniences, and an offer of a well-balanced lifestyle that the upwardly-mobile, middle-income segment deserves.

Construction is right on track, highlighted by the completion of the 50 sqm. and 100 sqm. model units, presenting homebuyers with an enticing glimpse of condo living possibilities at this impressive development located within DMCI Homes’ Township Central in Taguig City.

Tapped to render charming interior plans for the model units is designer Wilmer Lopez of WLopez Designs, who has created a glamorous interpretation of a condo home.  His most dramatic statement was achieved through lighting – not just your usual basic utility but one that refreshes and creates drama!

Contemporary Bali for the 2-bedroom unit

For the 50 sqm model unit of Royal Palm Residences, Lopez solved the challenge of enhancing the design of the unit, which appears in basic turnover finish.  The wall paint, ceiling, flooring, and kitchen were preserved to their deliverable specs, with Lopez adding hints of the contemporary Bali motif.

“This model unit is for a family who loves the outdoors.  This can be seen around the unit, from the beddings of their room to the furniture they use.  It’s very casual and natural, using a modern tropical resort setup,” he said.

Lighting plays an essential role to achieving the unit's design intent. Three types of applications were used to create different effetcs and functions. INdirect lighting was liberally applied in the master's and secondary badroom. Accent lighting was added in the living area to create more drama  for each space, while task lighting was implemented for the busy areas of the house such as the kitchen where intense activities are carried out.

The boy's room is one interesting showcase of how ligting can help create impact on a certain space, with Lopez using the theme of a watersports fan and using cool blue lighting to enhance such motif. The hanging bed, which is bolted to the ceiling, seems to float on water - achieved through indirect lighting in bluish hues hidden under the bed, to create the illusion of the sea. A rug with a playful texture assimilates the look of corals, while a surfboard and firsbee, along with the amusing play of colors and space, encapsulating the concept.

Mood lighting meanwhile makes the living areas more interesting, complementing the fancy mix of Balinese and Japanese design.  Low-set furniture from the sofa to the dining bench convey a contemporary Japanese flavor, while organic accents and a calm feel is achieved through accent lighting.  “We applied accent lighting around the unit with the use of specially-designed lamps with stencil cutouts.  When lit up, the lamps cast fascinating shadows on the wall, which softens the room,” Lopez noted.

The designer added that indirect lighting can best be used for homes with limited space, such as a condo unit. "It gives drama to a room while taking away the harsh glare of direct light. We wanted to make the ambience more romantic and sensual, to make it more interesting. No matter how well designed your home is with the use of materials and colors, without proper lighting the interiors will stand out," Lopez explained .

Life in balance at home

Royal Palm Residences’ target market comes from a new class of individuals who are attuned to their spirituality as much as they are conscious of their physical and mental health. They need a living space that is more than just a shelter for the body and a refuge for the mind, but also a temple for the soul – a lifespace that offers the true essence of holistic wellness.

An ambient residential community comprising of 8 medium-rise and 2 high-rise structures on a 4.12 hectare property, Royal Palm Residences is located in close proximity to the country’s growing financial districts of Bonifacio Global City and Makati; the trendiest mall destinations like Bonifacio High Street and Greenbelt; top educational institutions such as the International School, British and Japanese schools, and key thoroughfares in EDSA and C-5.
